My Story

DJ GQ, born Gary Hardie in Miami, Florida, and raised in Jamaica by his Cuban/Chinese Jamaican parents, has a rich cultural heritage that profoundly influences his music career. Over the years, DJ GQ has collaborated with renowned artists such as Akon, DMX, Mr. Vegas, and Skip Marley. Following the global success of "Turn Me On," he has served as the tour DJ for Kevin Lyttle.

 

In 2020, DJ GQ released his debut album, "Is It You?", which quickly reached #1 on the iTunes Reggae charts and climbed to #10 on the Billboard Reggae charts. His captivating performances continue to mesmerize audiences worldwide, complemented by his weekly nightclub residencies in South Florida.

 

A significant presence in radio, DJ GQ was a part of the syndicated mix show Remix Top 30 with Hollywood Hamilton, broadcast across over 100 cities via iHeart/Premiere Networks. He made history as the first Top 40 Mixer on Y100 and continues to be a staple on Y100 Miami (iHeart) with his weekly mixes. He also contributes specialty mixes to Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Radio (SiriusXM) and launched his show, "Dancehall Cyaan Done," on Tuff Gong Radio, SiriusXM channel 19, in August 2023.

 

Beyond his music career, DJ GQ is deeply committed to education and philanthropy. Annually, he engages with hundreds of students, sharing insights on careers in music. He volunteers with several organizations, including the Grammy Association, where he has served on the board as a governor. Additionally, DJ GQ has been instrumental in supporting starting artists, helping them navigate the complexities of the music industry through his guidance.

 

Since 2018, DJ GQ has been a pivotal supporter of the For a Better Day Foundation, contributing to all community initiatives and playing an essential role in the organization's growth and mission. His dedication to the community is reflected in his continuous efforts to uplift and mentor aspiring musicians.

 

In recognition of his talent and dedication, DJ GQ was honored with the 2024 Electronic Dance Music Award (EDMA) for Mixshow DJ of the Year (Top 40 / Dance), solidifying his status as a leading figure in the music industry.
